Fairwood Animal Hospital

Best place to take your animals for yearly check-ups and emergency care. Dr Hanson saved my puppy's life and I'm forever grateful. On top of that, I have trusted them with the care of my animals over the last 13 years. Highly recommend this place!

We had an extremely frustrating experience with Fairwood Vet that resulted in us spending a significant amount of money for an appointment that ultimately accomplished nothing. We originally scheduled a boarding consultation for our dog. When scheduling and during the appointment, we were very clear that he has severe situational anxiety and would require medication while being boarded. We also mentioned that we had previously been concerned about possible liver issues and that blood work had already been done. Instead of primarily focusing on whether they could safely board our dog, the appointment became focused on his liver. They attempted to repeat blood work we had already told them had been done and performed an ultrasound. After we paid for the ultrasound, the veterinarian told us she could see that his liver was enlarged and that there were no obvious bleeding tumors, but she couldn't actually determine what was going on because she isn't a radiologist. We were then told that if we wanted a radiologist to evaluate his liver, the ultrasound would have to be performed again by a radiologist. So we had just paid for an ultrasound that couldn't actually give us the answers we would have expected from having one done. For his anxiety, she started him on Prozac, which meant he could no longer use the Trazodone that had actually been helping him. We were also prescribed Valium and instructed to give it daily and taper him off of it. We specifically explained that his anxiety was situational and that he did not currently need daily Valium, so we ultimately did not start it. After going through the consultation, medications, vaccinations, ultrasound, and expense involved in preparing him for boarding, we were THEN informed that they do not have anyone available on weekends who can administer the medication he would require. That should have been established before anything else happened. If a dog with severe anxiety requiring medication cannot be accommodated for weekend boarding, we should have been told that when we scheduled the boarding consultation—or at the absolute latest, at the beginning of the appointment. Instead, we spent a substantial amount of money preparing our dog to board at a facility that ultimately could not board him under the conditions we had clearly explained from the beginning. The entire experience felt disorganized and incredibly frustrating. We came in specifically to determine whether boarding would work for our dog, and that basic question could have been answered before we spent money on an appointment, testing, vaccinations, and new medications. Had we simply been told upfront that they could not administer his necessary medication on weekends, we would never have proceeded with any of it.

I couldn't wait for an opening so I could start bringing Stuart to Fairwood Animal Hospital because I have heard so many wonderful things about your establishment. Stuart and I have always been treated with respect and honesty. Thank you Fairwood for being such a great and trusted place.

We absolutely love Fairwood Animal Hospital. They always manage to get my fur babies in quickly when they need to be seen, and their routine care is just as exceptional. Everyone is knowledgeable, kind, and you can tell they genuinely love what they do. Most importantly, they somehow make vet visits feel like a social call for my pets instead of a trip to the doctor. They’re comfortable, happy, and barely even seem scared anymore. I’m not sure how they pulled that off, but I’m impressed. Great care, great people, and clearly very spoiled patients. I wouldn’t trust my fur babies with anyone else.
