Pet Emergency Clinic

My boyfriend’s son and his wife lost everything when their apartment building caught on fire today. Firefighters found their dog, but their kitten is still missing. We spent several hours at the emergency vet today getting treatment their dog. The bill was 1200.00. I was shocked that Spokane’s Pet Emergency Clinic would not even discount the bill 10% for a 20 and 21 year old that lost everything, including a days work because of the fire. We stayed at the vet so they could get something to eat, go to Walmart for clothes and a toothbrush and other necessities. I was in Sonoma County during the 2017 and 2019 fires. The community and businesses came together to try to help those that lost everything. There were signs everywhere saying Sonoma Strong and businesses were respected and appreciated by everyone for their contribution. A small discount goes a long way for someone who has to rebuild everything.

I took my pet in only to be referred to pet emergency who basically did not follow the vets instructions. And they upset my pet up until the last few minutes of her life at which point they felt it was easier to put her down and not follow the original vets instructions.

I don’t ever write reviews, but had to in this case. We brought in our 12 yr old cat who was in distress from a traumatic experience with a neighborhood little girl and our pool. She had been having the same symptoms of her sister who we had put to sleep 4 months earlier, so we knew it was just a matter of time and had made the decision on the way there that the outcome would most likely be putting her to sleep. We expressed this to the front desk and to the tech who came in and got her history. The tech then took her away to take her vitals and we didn’t see or hear from anyone for two hours. A check in now and then would have been appreciated. Then when the dr came in, she said she wouldn’t be able to make any diagnosis without x rays or tests. When we expressed that we didn’t have the money for those tests, let alone treatment or even palliative care the response was “oh, that’s unfortunate.” We felt judged for a decision that was ours to make, knowing we couldn’t afford anything else, and seeing this decline in her sister do recently. We didn’t want her to go through that. The only person who showed us any kindness at all was the little gal who finally brought us our cat and who helped put her to sleep. We’ve been here twice before, 2013 and then about 2016. We didn’t get this kind of treatment then. It was frustrating in a time where compassion would have been appreciated. We won’t be coming back for sure.
